Danielle Cleave, a white woman with curly brown hair and wearing a black dress, officiates a wedding for the bride and groom. The bride is white with brown hair and wearing an a-line white dress and veil and the groom is white with brown hair in a navy suit. Their guests and bridal party look on in colourful attire and amongst colourful florals. They are standing against a white brick wall and large windows and the ceremony space is bright and airy.

Getting married? You've probably been looking at when to book each of your vendors. The standard response you will see for when to book your officiant?

6 months.

As an officiant myself would I recommend this timeline?

Absolutely not!

Though a wedding officiant is not the first vendor you may think of when beginning your planning process, they are an important one. We may not have the flash and glamour of floral design, and we don't have boxes of cake to send home for a tasting. But we are the ones who will set the stage for you big day. The ones who create an atmosphere that welcomes your guests, celebrates your love in a way authentic to you, and most importantly - we make sure that at the end of the day you walk away legally married to the love of your life.

Having your pick of officiants will ensure you find someone who fits your personalities, your vision for your ceremony, and who will make sure that creating your ceremony will be the easiest part of the planning process.

So when would I recommend booking your officiant?

As soon as you book your venue.

Speaking from my experience of marrying couples in Toronto, the GTA, and Durham Region - popular areas of Ontario to be married, with numerous venues - things book up quickly, especially during peak wedding months.

Lucky enough to be getting married on a Saturday in September? I'd say you need to be scheduling your officiant more than a year in advance. For the 2025 season, I was fully booked for September Saturdays 14 months in advance! Which means a lot of incredibly sweet couples reaching out to me at the 6 month mark and being disappointed.

So if you are tying the knot from June-October, I'd recommend beginning looking for your officiant as soon as you lock down your venue, date, and time. Outside of peak season? You have more flexibility, but I would still recommend you start your search sooner rather than later (and definitely sooner than 6 months in advance).

So - if you have found your way here and still need to schedule your officiant, I would be happy to chat and help you see if I am the right fit for your big day. See my most commonly requested Services here, or send me a Conta

ct Form here - and we will start making you the customized ceremony of your dreams!
